I like the idea of Chipotle sauces more than I usually like the products. Often, to me, they often have a weird chemically taste which I can only assume gets there in the smoking process. This sauce happily doesn't suffer from that problem at all. Perhaps because it isn't especially smoky (IMHO) . Honestly any problems I have with the taste can be attributed to personal preferences.
For me this sauce is rather too sweet (molasses is the 2nd highest listed ingredient, and there's honey as well. Of course it openly states that it's a Texas BBQ style sauce, and in that category it's certainly not especially sweet) - and by simply being very mild. I found myself adding other ingredients to get the heat level up into what I'd usually consider the 'mild' range.
Ultimately it comes down to this being a probably very good example of a particular style of sauce that I'm not crazy about. I'm going to have to keep looking for a go-to chipotle sauce, but this is impressive enough to encourage me to try some of Melbourne Hot Sauces other products.
And if you like a sweet, mild Texas BBQ sauce that isn't especially smoky, this might be perfect for you.
